Projects Overview

Ecuador - Guayllabamba

Ecuador: Guayllabamba Watershed Reforestation Project

The Guyallabamba Watershed Reforestation Project is located within the surrounding montane areas around Ecuador’s capital city of Quito. The project represents an opportunity to combine carbon revenue with extraordinary social and environmental benefits, and is most suited for an institution requiring credits for Corporate Social Responsibility purposes.

Brazil - Costa Verde

Brazil: The Costa Verde Reforestation Project

The Costa Verde Project is an integrated commercial forestry (eucalyptus and native hardwoods), agroforestry (heart of palm) and conservation (Atlantic forest) project. It combines multiple revenue streams for investors, on approximately 6,000ha of land to be purchased on the east coast of Brazil. The project represents a first class investment opportunity, combining healthy returns on investment with creation of jobs in an area of low opportunities for economic development, and the conservation and restoration of Atlantic forest.

Kenya - Huri Hills

Kenya: The Huri Hills Reforestation Project

The Huri Hills is one of the most remote areas of East Africa, bordering Ethiopia to the North, and Kenya’s Chalbi Desert to the south and east. Extensive deforestation in the area occurred during the 1930s, and subsequent changes in the climatic conditions and water availability have resulted. Global Green Carbon  has partnered with Food for the Hungry to undertake a pilot reforestation project, in conjunction with a country-wide efficient stoves project. The initial project has a scope of up to 5,000ha, but can be scalable beyond this.

Nicaragua - The Rio San Juan

Nicaragua: The Rio San Juan Reforestation Project

The Rio San Juan Reforestation Project consists of a community based reforestation effort within the Rio San Juan region of Southeastern Nicaragua. The project groups small-holder landowners into a reforestation and agroforestry effort utilizing predominantly native species in regions where infrastructure is low and opportunities for economic development are few.

Global Green Carbon in Cameroon

Cameroon: The Dja Biosphere Regional REDD+ Project

The Dja Biosphere Regional REDD+ Project is a 1.2 million hectare avoided deforestation, agroforestry and reforestation project in and around the 620,000 hectare Dja Biosphere Reserve. The Dja is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and is one of the last areas of forest in west-Central Africa that remains relatively untouched by man. However, its unique biodiversity and ecosystems are threatened by deforestation and poaching: deforestation is now occurring right up to, and even within, the margins of the reserve; poaching occurs deep within the core of the reserve, involving large mammals such as elephants and chimpanzees.
